LPN Programs in Maine

An aging population that is living longer is just one of the reasons why healthcare-related positions in the United States, such as the licensed practical nurse, are in high demand. However, before an individual may provide bedside care, take vital statistics and record patient information, he or she must undergo training from an accredited LPN program in Maine in order to work in the state.

Schools With LPN Programs in Maine

In Maine, there are currently only two accredited programs offered in Maine that provide approved classroom instruction and clinical experience for aspiring licensed practical nurses.

  • Located in Southern Portland, Intercoast Career Institute is a school that offers a specialized Practical Nursing curriculum for students preparing to take the NCLEX-PN licensure exam upon graduation. Classroom instruction consists of building a foundation in nursing skills and knowledge with coursework that centers on topics, such as current trends, anatomy, and physiology. Laboratory activities, hands-on learning, and clinical rotations help strengthen the overall curriculum, and prepare students for real-life experiences. The Practical Nursing program at the Institute is available only at the school’s Kittery and South Portland, Maine campus locations.
  • In Auburn, Central Maine Community College offers a Nursing program with a curriculum that provides multiple entry/exit points. The first year of study concentrates on meeting the educational requirements that an individual needs to complete for a career in practical nursing. Students in pursuit of a Diploma in Practical Nursing will exit after the first year of coursework, while others interested in earning an Associate Degree to become a registered nurse will continue on for another year.
