The field of nursing in the state of Oklahoma is experiencing tremendous growth, much like the rest of the US. With the increased demand for qualified nurses, there is a special demand for nurses holding an MSN degree, who can step into advanced nursing roles as well as teaching roles. Registered nurses who want higher salaries and more opportunities can certainly find those by continuing their education and earning a Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing. This particular degree is required for those who wish to become nurse educators, administrators and advanced practice nurses.

Schools With MSN Programs in Oklahoma

  • Northeastern State University’s Department of Health Professions offers a 32-credit MSN program for those who wish to become Nurse Educators. In order to be considered for the program, nurses must have a BSN degree from an accredited college or university and must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5. Students must submit proof of their valid RN license in the state of Oklahoma, as well as scores from a placement test such as the GRE or MAT.
  • The Kramer School of Nursing at Oklahoma City University’s MSN program caters to BSN holders as well as registered nurses who would like to earn their MSN but have only a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. For the RN to MSN bridge program, students will need to complete a few different courses before progressing into the MSN program, including Health Assessment, Community Health Nursing and Nursing Leadership. All students can specialize in Nursing Education or Nursing Leadership. BSN-holding students must have an undergraduate GPA or 3.0 or higher.
  • Southern Nazarene University School of Nursing also provides a traditional BSN to MSN program as well as an RN to MSN bridge program. Those applying for the bridge program must be licensed, registered nurses within the state of Oklahoma, and must have a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. Those applying for the traditional program must hold a BSN degree from an accredited program and must have an unencumbered RN license. The program is designed to be completed in as few as 19 months and students can specialize in Nurse Education or Nurse Leadership.

The state of Oklahoma employs more than 60,000 healthcare workers, and that number is steadily growing. Employers are in need of qualified, competent medical workers to care for patients and assist other professionals. This includes licensed practical nurses, who help care for patients in various ways, under the supervision of registered nurses, medical doctors and dentists. In order to become a licensed practical nurse in Oklahoma, individuals must complete a board-approved LPN training program.

Schools With LPN Programs in Oklahoma

  • The Francis Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City offers a high-quality practical nursing program that consists of 1463 clock hours. The full-time option typically takes about 13 months to complete, and covers important topics like maternity-pediatric nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology and more. Twenty to twenty-four hours of the academic week is spent doing clinical experiences in various healthcare locations. The cost of this particular program is exceptionally low; just $2 per clock hour for a total of $2,926. This does not include the cost of books and other supplies.
  • Tulsa Technology Center offers a practical nursing program with a total of 1463 clock hours, 775 of which are theory/lab hours and 688 of which are clinical experience hours that take place in healthcare settings. The program is divided up into 5 blocks of instruction and takes between 12 and 18 months to complete. The estimated cost of the program is $7,300.
  • The Springlake campus of Metro Technology Centers boasts an excellent practical nursing program that is fully accredited and approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. The program accepts 40 students each year, and like most other LPN training programs, combines classroom theory with clinical and laboratory experiences.
  • Moore Norman Technology Center offers a great practical nursing program that is completed in 1463 clock hours, and covers topics like concepts of nursing, medical-surgical nursing, mental health concepts and more. The program features a self-paced schedule which requires about 20 hours each week. The class begins each August and the on-time completion rate is more than 91%. This program is approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
  • Located in Wayne, Oklahoma, Mid-America Technology Center’s practical nursing program is approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing and offers individuals the opportunity to earn a practical nursing diploma. Individuals will need to take the pre-entrance examination (there is a $40 fee) in order to be accepted into the program. The total cost of the program is $3,000, with $2,032 required up front. The program takes 10 months to complete and will qualify individuals to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • The Gordon Cooper Technology Center also offers a practical nursing program with two options: the full-time track which takes 11 months to complete and the night and weekend track which takes about 21 months to complete. There are 136 hours of prerequisites required in order to be accepted to this program, and the actual program is 1400 hours. Total tuition is $2199 with an additional $1000 in fees and an approximate cost of $685 for books and $350 for uniforms.
  • Indian Capital Technology Center offers a practical nursing program that is available at the Muskogee, Sallisaw, Stilwell and Bill Willis Tahlequah Campuses. Consisting of 1463 clock hours, this practical nursing program takes about 11 months to complete. Those who attend the Stilwell campus can utilize the flexible study option, which allows them to complete some of the work on their own. This particular program will take about 16 months to complete. The tuition is $1.50 per clock hour for in-district students.
  • Autry Technology Center offers a great practical nursing program which combines classroom theory with clinical instruction in various healthcare settings throughout the community. In order to gain entrance into the program, individuals must submit to a background check as well as drug screening, and are responsible for the costs associated with those tests. Total class hours are 1463, and there are flexible options for those who must schedule their education around work, etc. Upon completion of the program, individuals can take the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • Individuals living in or near Burns Flat, Oklahoma, can take advantage of Western Technology Center’s practical nursing program. The program requires 1463 clock hours, and the tuition is $2 per credit hour. Typically, the program takes 13 months to complete and once individuals have graduated, they are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • Meridian Technology Center, located in Stillwater, offers a practical nursing program that takes approximately 14 months to complete. Tuition is $4,072, not including various expenses such as books, uniforms and fees. Some of the fees include the cost for background checks, drug screening and immunizations as well as a CPR course. Individuals who complete the program will be given a practical nursing diploma that will make them eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing.
  • Located in Bartlesville, Tri-County Technology Center’s practical nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and is approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. The 11-month program requires 1465 hours to complete and offers fall and spring enrollment.
  • Canadian Valley Technology Center offers the practical nursing program in three different areas: at the Cowan campus, the El Reno campus and the Chickasha campus. The programs typically take 24 months to complete, and combine classroom instruction with actual patient experiences at healthcare locations within the local community.
  • Southern Oklahoma Technology Center also offers a practical nursing program which is completed after 1463 clock hours. For most, the program can be completed within 12 months. In order to be accepted, individuals must receive a background check and drug screening and will be responsible for making sure their immunizations are up to date.
  • Ponca City, Oklahoma offers up the Pioneer Technology Center, which has an outstanding practical nurse program. The program requires 1500 clock hours to complete, and can typically be completed in 14 months or less. They have a relationship with several long-term care facilities, hospitals and other healthcare settings throughout the community, where students take their clinical experiences.
  • Northeast Technology Center offers their practical nursing program in Afton, Claremore, Kansas and Pryor. Interested individuals must take the entrance examination and make at least a 10.0 for both reading and math, and must make at least a C in the prerequisite medical terminology course.
  • Platt College, located in Tulsa, offers a practical nursing program that takes a little over a year to complete. Students learn under the supervision of a registered nurse, and once the program is completed, will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination. The estimated total cost of the program including additional expenses and supplies is just over $29,000.
  • Individuals in or around Poteau can take advantage of the practical nursing program at Kiamichi Technology Center. This program is a full-time, 11-month program which begins in July of each year. A pre-examination is required, and individuals must make satisfactory scores in order to be admitted to the program. The total hours for this program are 1508, and there is a non-refundable application fee required.
  • Approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, the practical nursing program at High Plains Technology Center follows the typical curriculum plan: about 50% classroom theory and 50% laboratory and clinical experiences. The estimated cost of the program for in-district students is $2,625 with an estimated $2,750 for books and supplies. There is also a $100 non-refundable deposit required for individuals who have been accepted into the program.
  • Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton offers a traditional, full-time course beginning in June of each year and a “Dayflex” option which begins in August and February. The tuition for both options is $5,033. The program takes 1508 hours to complete, and qualifies individuals to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • Wes Watkins Technology Center’s practical nursing program requires 1,463 hours to complete and typically takes about 12 months to finish. The cost is about $4,800, but this doesn’t include books, supplies and additional fees. The typical classes are offered in this program, including medical terminology, long-term care aide, pharmacology and intravenous therapy skills, pediatric nursing, maternal/newborn nursing and more.
  • Caddo Kiowa Technology Center boasts a great practical nursing program offered in Fort Cobb. The program is a full-time program, which means students will attend classes at least 30 hours a week. The total hours required to complete the program are 1463, and this is usually completed in about 18 months. Classes include academic and lab instruction on campus and clinical practicum experience in various cooperative healthcare facilities.
  • Individuals in or around Omega, Oklahoma can take advantage of Chisholm Trail Technology Center’s practical nursing program. It’s a 1500-clock hour program that individuals can finish in as little as 12 months. It’s a self-paced program, so it’s great for individuals who need to fit the program into their existing schedule. Tuition for in-district students is $2 per clock hour, an estimated $632 for textbooks, $765 for fees and $110 for graduation. Upon completion of the program, graduates can sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • Red River Technology Center offers a great 1-year practical nursing program that students attend from July to June each year. Classroom instruction takes place Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 3:30pm and clinical experiences take place between 6:30am and 5:30pm on weekdays. In order to be accepted into the program, individuals must schedule an entrance examination and complete the application packet.
  • Mid-Del Technology Center offers up a great practical nursing program that takes 1463 hours to complete and covers core medical technology, anatomy and physiology as well as long term care aide. The program combines classroom work with clinical experiences and can be completed in as little as 12 months.
  • While there are no fully-online LPN programs in the state of Oklahoma, there are some programs that allow students to finish class work online while attending clinical experiences in person. Indian Capital Technology Center is one of the schools offering this option.
