A licensed practical nurse who graduates from an LPN program in Connecticut is trained to provide care to not only elderly patients, but also to those recovering from disease, major illness, or an accident. Schools With LPN Programs in Connecticut
- The LPN Training Programs at Lincoln Technical Institute delivers hands-on nursing training and instruction with the help of simulation labs, medical wet labs, and nursing arts laboratories. The school’s skills competency training enhances a student’s ability to excel in completing specific tasks, such as bathing a patient. Clinical rotations in the field also solidify the study of essential nursing skills. The curriculum, which is taught by a staff of experienced instructors and Certified Nursing Educators (CNEs), includes instruction in data collection, nursing diagnosis, drug & IV therapy, community health events, and infection control. Campus locations in Connecticut include Hamden, New Britain, and Shelton.
- The Porter and Chester Institute (PCI) offers LPN training at five campus locations throughout Connecticut in Rocky Hill, Branford, Stratford, Enfield, and Watertown. Students receive classroom instruction and laboratory experience at an on-site facility, and later gain hands-on education in a range of clinical settings, including opportunities to have direct access to patients. Practical Nursing classes are held Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with clinical days from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. PCI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
- Preparing students to enter the workforce and care for individual patients in both acute and long-term care settings, Stone Academy offers two locations for earning an LPN certificate: West Haven and East Hartford. The Academy offers an affordable option for education, and boasts the lowest tuition costs of any private LPN program in Connecticut. There are no prerequisite courses to complete, and no waiting lists for the school. Students enjoy flexible schedules, including day or evening and weekend classes. The full-time program typically takes 14 months to complete.
- The Connecticut Technical High School System offers training for aspiring licensed practical nurses through their LPN/Technical Program, which is offered at six different sites throughout the state. Classes are held five days a week (Monday through Friday). The typical theory work class schedule is held from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The days and times of clinical experiences vary, with some students taking classes in the evening. Those who successfully complete a technical school’s course of study may pursue additional or can obtain immediate employment within the healthcare field.
- Eli Whitney Technical High School (Hamden, Connecticut) – The Licensed Practical Nurse Program is a three semester post-graduate program offered in a tiered classroom that can accommodate 40 adult learners with plenty of options for interactive learning. The 1,250 square foot laboratory area at Whitney Tech is home to nine Internet-accessible computers, and six beds with manikins that enhance the practice of fundamental nursing skills. Access to a Vitalsim manikin also allows essential simulation activities to take place.
- W. F. Kaynor Technical High School (Waterbury, Connecticut) – The three semester post-graduate Licensed Practical Nurse Program offered at Kaynor Tech accommodates a class of 45 adult students. A variety of software to enhance learning is available for use on one of 15 computers with Internet access. The clinical skills lab is equipped with 6 beds with manikins for practice, including a Vitalsim manikin.
- Vinal Technical School (Middletown, Connecticut) – Vinal Tech has a suite of rooms set aside for the post-graduate Licensed Practical Nurse Program for adults. With the capacity to accommodate 42 students, theory classroom instruction involves the use of a smart board, white board, bulletin boards, and an Elmo. There are 22 computers and a stocked library for students in the laboratory classroom, which also has four hospital beds with manikins for clinical practice, including two simulation manikins.
Connecticut LPN Checklist
