Schools With MSN Programs in Nevada

The School of Nursing at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas (UNLV) is home to an MSN program that trains future nurse practitioners with an interest in working with families, or nurses to become educators within his or her field. The program tracks are offered for full- and part-time study, where some courses may require an on-campus session during the semester that can last from one to three days. On-campus sessions are up to the individual instructor.

The Family Nurse Practitioner track offered at UNLV educates students on how to effectively communicate as a health care professional; incorporates nursing theory and evidence-based practice into the curriculum; and strengthens skills to evaluate and create a holistic plan of treatment. This program is geared towards registered nurses who already have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and possess an up-to-date, RN license. Chamberlain College of Nursing offers online instruction for nurses wishing to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. Other specialty tracks that the school offers include Educator, Executive, Informatics, and Healthcare Policy.

Nurses who wish to care for pregnant patients and newborns may consider Frontier Nursing University as a way to earn an MSN in Nurse-Midwifery. This ACNM-accredited program accepts nurses who have one year of experience under his or her belt; possess a current, active RN license; and who have also fulfilled prerequisites by taking a 3-credit physical assessment course and statistics course within the past 10 years.
