Nursing is a career that is jam-packed with experiences, some pleasant, some not – but certainly all rewarding. Those in this type of healthcare field may eventually decide to pursue a career in nursing education, administration or management. This is where MSN programs in Wyoming come in; they prepare registered nurses for advancement within the field.

Schools With MSN Programs in Wyoming

College America Cheyenne offers up two different MSN programs that might interest Wyoming residents: the Master’s in Nursing Administration and the Master’s in Nursing Education. Each of these programs are 15-month programs and cover a huge array of topics. Tuition costs are $29,190 for each of these programs with books included.

Another online option, Kaiser University Graduate School offers the Master’s of Science in Nursing, paying special attention to the guidelines of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The program has adopted Dr. Jean Watson’s “philosophy and theory of human caring,” which is a large part of the curriculum.

The Master’s of Science in Nursing degree available from Norwich University Online can be obtained in just 18 months. Students can choose between two different paths for their MSN, including administration or education. This school is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and offers up a rigorous and challenging curriculum.

You can expect to pay about $21,275 for the 10-week MSN program offered online through Capella University. Accredited by the CCNE, this program prepares nurses for administration or education careers. The curriculum includes The Essentials of Master’s Education for Advanced Practice Nursing established by the AACN. The total amount of credits required is 57, at a cost of about $375 per credit.

The MSN program available from Liberty University Online is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as well as the CCNE, and is a Christian faith-based school. Students can choose between two tracks, including administration or education. Applicants will need a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (or credit in approved courses). The program requires 42 total hours at a cost of $490 per credit hour.

Grand Canyon University offers a MSN program with emphasis in education, nursing leadership, health care informatics, family nurse practitioner and more. Each of these programs is available online, but the courses do require some clinical hours; from 150 to 650 depending upon the track taken. Each course focuses on the competencies required by the AACN, and to qualify for the courses, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s in Nursing from an accredited school.

Wyoming MSN Salary & Job Outlook

With an MSN, individuals can pursue several career advancements – from nursing administrators to educators. Salary will be dependent upon several things, including the exact career path chosen and the location within the state of Wyoming. For instance, the annual median salary of nursing instructors and teachers was $63,150 in May of 2012 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The annual median salary for a nurse practitioner (another career path available to those holding an MSN) was $86,480.

While the pay will certainly differ depending upon your specialty, the highest paid MSN-degree holders are clinical nurse specialists, clinical nurse managers and advanced registered nurse practitioners.
