BSN Programs in Indiana
Registered nurses are part of an industry whose demand for compassionate, competent employees will only continue to grow in the future. In order to advance within the healthcare workforce, getting a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school in Indiana is a beneficial career move. Nurses with a BSN degree often hold supervisory roles in hospitals and other health care facilities, as well as maintain a higher level of independence in decision-making and nursing practice.

Schools With BSN Programs in Indiana

  • Students who attend the University of Southern Indiana will earn a BSN from the first state-supported baccalaureate nursing program in southern Indiana. The school’s RN-to-BSN program allows registered nurses with an associate degree or nursing diploma to earn baccalaureate credentials. The University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs are accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing, as well as by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • The four-year BSN program at Valparaiso University uses liberal arts as well as the natural and social sciences to build a student’s educational background. In their first semester, students must meet the objectives of the program by completing Human Anatomy & Physiology I, General Chemistry, The Human Experience, and an elective of choice. Transfers and students seeking a second degree enter the Accelerated Nursing Track, which is typically completed in as little as 15 months. A minimum of 57 transfer credits and the completion of general education and science credits are required of applicants of the accelerated program. Both BSN programs at the University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Accredited by the CCNE, Ball State University offers a handful of opportunities for a student to earn a BSN degree. Applications to the traditional, on campus, four-year program are accepted twice yearly – during the first ten days of the Fall semester for Spring admission, and the first ten days of the Spring semester for Summer and Fall. The school also offers an online RN to BS program, and a hybrid LPN transition track (with online and in-class instruction).
  • Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne equips students with real-world experience and training with a BSN program that offers access to labs with state-of-the art technology. There are two ways to get a baccalaureate degree from the University: the generic four-year and the online RN-to-BSN program.
  • The post-licensure nursing program at Indiana Wesleyan University caters to registered nurses who wish to earn a BSN. When taking one course at a time in sequence, nursing majors can complete the program in approximately 19 months. Students have the choice to pursue the curriculum online or through a blended format at various locations in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.
  • Purdue University accepts applications for admission into the four-year BSN program at the School of Nursing through the Office of Admissions at the start of a high school student’s senior year. Acceptance into the program depends upon graduation from high school, the completion of certain coursework (such as Social Sciences, English, and a Foreign Language), overall academic achievement, class rank, and test scores. Admission into the BSN program at Purdue is limited and selective. Only the most qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will gain entry into the program.
  • The School of Health Sciences at the University of Saint Francis is responsible for educating the next generation of registered nurses with a BSN program geared towards traditional four-year learners looking to pursue an entry-level job, as well as registered nurses who enter an RN-BSN Program offered across the Internet. Classes are taken every eight weeks, and accommodate both full- and part-time learners.
  • Accommodating students who possess a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field, Marian University Indianapolis offers an Accelerated BSN (ASBN) program where classes take place both inside of a classroom and online. The University’s faith-based program has a campus location in Indianapolis, Indiana, which is accredited by the CCNE. Applications are received on an ongoing basis with admission to the ASBN program taking place in January. Hands-on learning experiences related to a variety of health care settings occur throughout the city and its surrounding region with clinical experiences centered on adult health, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, and intensive care. Students in the accelerated BSN program complete the majority of nursing courses in five- to seven-week rotations.

Indiana Nurse Salary & Job Outlook

Research suggests that nurses with a BSN are more likely to get accepted for a new job position over a nurse with an associate degree. It’s a common practice for employers to identify a nurse with a baccalaureate degree as possessing a higher level of experience and skills. Because of this, the degree often translates into increased earning potential, especially when certain regions experience a nursing shortage. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that registered nurses with a BSN qualify to make a median salary of $57,520 in Indiana.

In order to take advantage of the benefits that come with a BSN, choosing a degree program that fits personal needs is a must. For some, that means choosing a school in Indiana that offers online classes.
