LPN Programs in Idaho
Due to a growing elderly population across the United State, there is an increasing demand to hire well-trained licensed practical nurses in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Qualified applicants must complete an accredited program to earn a certificate in Practical Nursing before taking advantage of this attractive career field. There are a limited number of LPN programs in Idaho with schools located in Twin Falls and Boise which equip graduates with the necessary skills, training, and knowledge to assume expected job responsibilities.

Schools With LPN Programs in Idaho

  • The Practical Nursing (PNUR) program offered at Idaho State University College of Technology ends with the receipt of an Advanced Technical Certificate. Students in the program encounter a curriculum that blends classroom, laboratory, and student nurse practicum instruction during mandatory semester and summer sessions. The LPN program starts in August (fall semester) and lasts for 2 ½ semesters on a full-time basis. Clinical hours may occur on evening, weekend, or night rotations – depending on the discretion of instructors.
  • Lewis-Clark State College offers a Practical Nursing program approved by the Idaho Board of Nursing. The program is one that is regarded as being the only PN option in the state that allows students to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Practical Nursing. Classes are held on the Lewiston campus, where students work towards completing a total of 60 credits during the four-semester curriculum. Pre-PN prerequisite courses are taken during the first fall semester, and include College Writing and a recommended Intro to Psychology. Other coursework includes subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology, Child Health Theory, and Mental Health Nursing Theory.
  • Carrington College has campus locations across the United States with one in Boise, Idaho. The College’s Practical Nursing/Vocational Nursing (PN/VN) program is designed to prepare graduates to assume an entry-level position as a licensed practical/vocational nurse. The hands-on curriculum blends classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical training with healthcare facilities in Idaho.
  • The College of Southern Idaho, located in Twin Falls, offers a LPN program that is typically completed in three semesters with about 50 students in the graduating class. Some of the classes that students will encounter includes Therapeutic Nutrition; Pharmacology for Practical Nursing; and Medical Surgical. The nursing program at CSI is approved by the Idaho Board of Nursing and the Idaho State Board of Professional-Technical Education.
  • In Idaho Falls, Eastern Idaho Technical College has a Practical Nursing program with year-round entry that is approved by the State Board of Nursing. Providing classroom instruction, access to a state-of-the-art nursing lab, and hands-on supervised clinical experience regarding theory and how to provide effective nursing care, students work towards earning an Advanced Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing. Some students complete the professional component of the program in a minimum of three semesters, while others have taken up to six semesters.
  • North Idaho College provides students in the Coeur d’Alene region with access to a Technical Certificate program in Practical Nursing that prepares graduates to pursue entry-level employment as an LPN after passing the NCLEX-PN exam. Students typically complete the program within 11 months, which includes a curriculum that touches upon basic and clinical foundations of nursing, surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, pharmacology, and geriatrics. The admission process is selective, and requires candidates for the program to submit a valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate from any state with his or her application. Some of the courses found in the PN curriculum include Human Biology, and several sections of Practical Nursing Theory with labs. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 48 credit hours, including the completion of prerequisites, in order to earn a certificate.
