  • An online DNP program is offered by the School of Nursing at New Mexico State University. Nurses will acquire expertise in advanced practice of their chosen specialty and have the highest level of scientific knowledge available, enabling them to provide quality patient care. Students attend a week-long intensive at the campus once a year, but all courses are delivered online. This is a full-time program that will take students approximately three years to complete. Those entering at the post-master’s level have an option for part-time study, but the curriculum is mainly designed for those without their MSN.   • The College of Nursing at the University of New Mexico offers a DNP program that focuses on preparing Nurse Executive Organizational Leaders with the skills required for the most advanced practice. Students branch into teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership. Available completely online, students may only enroll full-time. The program is six consecutive semesters in length and involves completing thirty-six semester credit hours. New Mexico DNP Nurse Checklist

Take the time to complete your application according to the specifications of the school to which you are applying. These programs admit a few students each year and applicants vie for a place. It is imperative that you understand the exact application procedures and admissions policies of each school so that you have the best chance of admittance. Do not submit late applications and ensure that you meet all the prerequisites required. Bridge programs will enable you to study for your MSN prior to entering the doctorate, but graduate studies must be completed if you are to be considered as a prospective student. This is what you will need when applying to a DNP program in New Mexico:

  • Only figures of authority may provide the three letters of recommendation required. They can include academic faculty, employers, qualified doctors and professional peers.
  • Completed graduate coursework should include core courses in nursing theory, research and statistics. This may not be older than five years and should have been passed with a minimum grade of C.
  • Completion of your BSN and MSN degrees from nationally accredited programs is compulsory and must be proven.
  • Examples of your creative writing or scholarly papers will need to be submitted.
  • Some schools will require your overall Grade Point Average score to be at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, while others will accept candidates with no less than 3.0.
  • Do not be late for your personal interview. The school will formally request your attendance and you must clear your schedule.
  • Each school that you attended after graduation from high school should be requested to provide official transcripts for you.
  • Include your resume in your application after updating your academic history, professional experiences and voluntary escapades.
  • Make your professional goals clear in a well-written essay. Describe them in detail and explain the importance of you completing doctoral studies.
  • You must be registered as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and own current licensure that allows unrestricted practice in New Mexico.
  • The school will delve into your criminal history by performing a background check. They will also require your latest medical checkup results and proof of certain immunizations.
  • You will need to prove the number of clinical hours that you have accumulated as an Advanced Specialty Nurse, as well as those completed during your MSN coursework.
